Local students have joined an elite group after scooping Huddersfield Town’s ‘Shooting Star’ award, held in association with Lucas Lee & Partners.
Torchbearer Interactive, the brainchild of three University of Huddersfield students, has recently produced and released its own games and become a limited company. The company is working hard to become a seal of approval for well-produced games and applications.
In a joint comment, students Pete Waugh, Jonathan Langley and Edward Andrew said of their award:
“Being recognised as an up and coming company is an exciting time for us, but also humbling. We still have much to do to maintain this upwards trajectory.
“The encouragement and support that we have received from the university and other digital developers is helping to mould us into a business with real potential. It is a privilege to have established ourselves in Huddersfield, which is proving itself to be a major force for entrepreneurial spirit but also a tight knit community.
“We are thrilled to have won this award. It is reassuring to know that you are going in the right direction; it can be easy to get caught up in the process when investing your time starting a new business.
“Ultimately, we aim to supply high quality software where there is a demand and this recognition pushes us to continue to strive for that goal.
“It’s fantastic to be recognized outside of the games sector. Receiving this award only makes us prouder to be a Huddersfield based company.”
Chris Lee, Managing Director at Lucas Lee & Partners said:
“This award is testament to the hard work of all involved in the creation and production of Torchbearer Interactive and shows just what can be done when working hard.
“I’m delighted to be presenting this award to some local students with a vision, objective and a plan who have clearly demonstrated innovative and forward thinking from the embryonic stage to release.”
Commercial Manager – Partnerships at Huddersfield Town, John Williams added:
“Torchbearer Interactive is a fantastic young business with aspirations to make it all the way to the top of the programming and design world; a deserving winner of the ‘Shooting Star’ award. I look forward to following their progress in the future
