Gold Olympic medallist Ed Clancy was names Kirklees Sports Legend in the hugely successful Kirklees Sports Awards.
Yorkshire’s most decorated Olympic athlete, Ed Clancy, who was born in Huddersfield won the final award of
the evening at the glitzy ceremony on Friday 11 November.
Three time gold medallist Ed Clancy, who has been honoured with an MBE, is also a Patron of the Huddersfield Town Foundation.
The awards were promoted by the Huddersfield Examiner and held in association with Huddersfield Town
recognising sports teams in the area and those volunteers who do the unseen work for clubs and societies.
Ten different awards were on offer at the ceremony which was being held in association with partners Myers Building Supplies, Lowdhams, Ubisoft, Legact Sport and the Huddersfield Examiner. These awards included Kirklees Sports Legend which was won by Ed Clancy, Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality, Sports Team of the Year and Sports Official of the Year.
Other categories included in the awards include Sports Club and Sports Teacher of the Year, an award around Outstanding Services to Sport, the Most Improved Team and the Disabled Athlete of the Year.
The panel who judged the winners of each category was chaired by Hollywood actor and Huddersfield Town fan, Sir Patrick Stewart. It also included Yorkshire Cricket First Team Coach Andrew Gale, Huddersfield Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth and Huddersfield Giants Prop Eorl Crabtree.
