Stod Fold Brewing Co named ‘Shooting Star’ Date: 28/11/2014

Stod Fold Brewing Company is the latest winner of the Huddersfield Town ‘Shooting Star’ award, sponsored by Total Dilapidations Service (TDS).

Stod Fold, along with the previous monthly winners, will now enter into the Club’s judging process for the Shooting Star ‘Champion of Champions’ annual award.

Each month Huddersfield Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis and Commercial Manager – Partnerships John Williams, alongside TDS’ Managing Director Chris Lee and Huddersfield Town Manager Chris Powell, select a business that is making a difference in the area to receive the accolade.

Stod Fold Brewing Company’s founding partners (and childhood friends) Paul Harris and Angus Wood joined forces two years ago after careers in Brewing, Microbiology and Finance and Marketing respectively to create a small team dedicated to producing exceptional beers.

Over six months they designed and built the brewery themselves. They decided early that they would never compromise on anything that could possibly affect the quality and consistency of their beers or the flexibility of their processes allowing them to evolve in the future. On that basis they installed a fully integrated, bespoke, state of the art, microbrewery at Stod Fold Farm in Halifax.

With the Stod Fold Brewery still in its infancy and the business adding partners Samantha Turner and Jonny Naylor, who are responsible for sales and distribution, it managed to find a moment to grab a world record off the Americans for the world’s biggest beer! That beer measured in at 3664 pints – one for every km of the Tour du France which was passing through Yorkshire at the time.

Uniquely, the brewery also founded and supports the Stod Fold Foundation, a charitable trust supporting local charities that are close to its heart and those of its benefactors. The majority of the fundraising comes from the Brewery, which contributes 1% of gross sales to the foundation.

On winning the Shooting Stars Award, Angus Wood commented:

“To be honest, as such a young company, it was an honour to even be considered. I remember thinking, as I perused the list of previous winners, ‘oh well, it was an achievement to have been noticed’ and I didn’t hold out much hope! We feel to then go on and win is a real coup. My thanks go out to everyone who put up with the long days, sleepless nights and eye watering pay cuts to get us cracking; I imagine that is one thing everyone nominated for the ‘Shooting Star’ awards will know all about!”

Chris Lee from TDS added:

“Stod Fold Brewing Company is the last Shooting Star winner having fought off stiff competition to gain a well-earned place amongst some auspicious winners.

“TDS is proud to present this month’s award to yet another company that proves there is really ambition and talent locally. Like other new companies that have received the ‘Shooting Star’ award, Stod Fold Brewing Company has found an niche and exploited it to the full, showing that new business can be both achievable and sustainable; we wish them every success in the future and hope they realise the goal of rivalling the ‘big boys’!”

John Williams, Huddersfield Town Commercial Manager – Partnerships, said:

“This is a business that will go from strength to strength given the commitment and dedication coupled with their growth not just locally but nationally. It’s a testament to its vision and hard work that it is reaping the rewards and is a well-deserved winner of the ‘Shooting Star’ award.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming them to our game against Bolton on 28 December where will announce the ‘Champion of Champions’.”
