The latest winner of the Shooting Stars Award in association with Lucas Lee is Oliver James Sugarcraft.
Oliver James Sugarcraft was formed in 2011 after health problems forced a change in career for Oliver, he has always had a passion for baking and enjoyed doing this in his spare time, so he decided to enrol on a 10-week night school course for cake decorating. After this he was hooked and enrolled on a second course which was one full day a week for a year, from where he began creating cakes for friends and family.
In 2015 he had outgrown his home kitchen, as he was receiving a lot more wedding cake orders, so expanded the business into an industrial unit in Denby Dale. From here with the help of his wife Katie they created over 200 wedding cakes.
After spending most of their time enjoying a nice coffee and cake when out delivering wedding cakes, they saw a gap in the market. Very few places provide high quality coffee along with freshly baked onsite cakes and sweet treats, so after 18 months learning new skills and Barista Training, Oliver found the ideal premises from which ‘Wired Coffee and Cake’, the new coffee venture was born, and is the new base for Oliver James Sugarcraft.
The new Venture ‘Wired Coffee and Cake’ can be found at 17 Church street, Honley HD9 6AH. Here Oliver provides freshly roasted local coffee alongside handmade cakes baked on the premises.
Many people ask how they came up with name “Wired” it actually means to be high on Caffeine and Sugar, which they found appropriate. The doors opened on the 31 November 2018 and Oliver and Katie look forward to running the coffee shop alongside their wedding cake business for many years to come, whilst also looking at ideas to expand the business further.
Wired Coffee and Cake opens:
Fridays 9am – 4pm
Saturdays 9.30am – 4pm
Sundays 10am – 3pm
