Kirklees Community Sports Awards: the shortlist! Date: 12/10/2015

The shortlist has today been announced for the first ever Kirklees Community Sports Awards, which aims to recognise and reward those who are involved in sport.

The awards, promoted by the Huddersfield Examiner and held in association with Huddersfield Town, will recognise sports teams in the area, as well as recognising the often unseen work done by volunteers and those around the clubs and societies. The event will climax in a glitzy awards ceremony on Friday 6 November 2015.

The event is being held in association with partners Myers Building Supplies, Lowdhams, Ubisoft and Sainsbury’s.

Categories include Kirklees Sports Legend, Sports Personality of The Year, Young Sports Personality, Sports Team of the Year and Sports Official of the Year. Other categories included in the awards include Sports Club and Sports Teacher of the Year, an award around Outstanding Services to Sport, the Most Improved Team and the Disabled Athlete of the Year.

Yorkshire Cricket Captain Andy Gale, Town legend Andy Booth, Examiner Sports Editor Mel Booth, Huddersfield Giants Prop Eorl Crabtree and England Rugby Union Centre Luther Burrell made up the judging panel with Hollywood actor, famed for his Star Trek and X-Men roles, Sir Patrick Stewart chairing the judges.
