Two special guests named for ‘Chairman’s Lunch’ Date: 21/01/2016

The first two top-table guests for Huddersfield Town’s ‘Chairman’s Lunch’ on Thursday 10 March 2016 (noon start) have been confirmed.

On the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s lunch – taking place at The John Smith’s Stadium – will focus on ‘A New Breed’ of Chairmen in the footballing world.

The first guest made ripples across the footballing world when he was appointed as Chairman of Wigan Athletic in March 2015 aged just 23 – David Sharpe.

The grandson of former Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan, David – a lifelong Latics fan – took over the reins at the DW Stadium and was immediately tasked with finding a new First Team Manager following the departure of Malky Mackay.

Gary Caldwell was the man selected by Sharpe and the Wigan Board and, despite relegation in the summer, the Scotsman has Wigan challenging for an immediate return to the Championship this term.

The second name confirmed for the Chairman’s Lunch is Oldham Athletic’s Simon Corney.

Having made his name in the field of telecommunications in New York City, Simon saved his club from potential liquidation alongside colleagues Danny Gazal and Simon Blitz when he bought the Latics in the summer of 2004.

He has since been at the helm for over a decade and has recently overseen big changes to the Club’s historic Boundary Park ground.

The other three Chairmen who will make up the panel will be announced in due course.

Another big announcement is that this year’s Chairman’s Lunch will be sponsored by Barclays.

Caroline Pullich, Head of Business & Corporate Banking in West Yorkshire for Barclays, commented:

“I am delighted to sponsor the Chairman’s Lunch and look forward to hearing stories of the Boardroom, plus the successes and challenges the Chairmen have had in business.

“This is also a great opportunity to network and make new connections.”

Prior to the Q&A, guests will also enjoy a two course lunch.
